Alright, listen up, football fans! Grab a seat, because Virginia’s offensive line just got a big boost with the addition of Wallace Unamba. This dude has taken the scenic route through college football—kind of like that friend who took the long way home but ended up at an epic party nonetheless.
Here’s the scoop: Unamba initially had his eyes on Virginia during the winter transfer circus, but ended up at Kentucky instead. Sometimes life’s like that, right? After getting some reps in at Kentucky’s spring practices, he hit the portal jackpot and circled back to Virginia. Well, welcome home, Wallace!
So, who is this guy? A giant, 6’6”, 335-pound giant to be precise. Unamba isn’t just big; he’s got the stats to back it up, starting with his All-American days at Kilgore Community College. He didn’t let a single sack through—that’s ridiculously impressive. He then did a bit of redshirt magic at Florida Atlantic, followed by a stint with New Mexico. There, he became a starter, playing for 699 snaps without giving up a sack. Props!

So, after riding the OL wave from college to college, Unamba is now causing a splash at Virginia, joining the Cavalier tribe as their fifth O-Line transfer this year. He’s in good company with fellow transfers like Monroe Mills and Kevin Wigenton II stepping up to the plate—er, line. Monroe Mills, though, had some rough luck with an ACL snag during spring ball. Talk about a buzzkill, right?
With Virginia losing Blake Steen and several other solid linemen, this reboot was coming faster than you can say blitz. They ranked 123rd and 132nd nationally in sacks allowed over the past couple of seasons. Yikes. But hey, at least they’ve got at least eight linemen now with starting chops, including our guy Unamba, who’s vying for a starting position. Who knows, we might just see him anchoring that line, turning things around faster than we can chant “Go Hoos!”
The hype is real, and you can bet we’re all watching to see if Virginia’s offensive line can tackle those old demons of sacks and safe pockets, all while giving their QB a fighting chance. Keep your eyes peeled on your favorite streaming platform—this season’s grillin’ and giving us a whole lot more than free content and message boards.
Game on, Unamba! Show them what you’ve got.
