Alright, baseball buffs—let’s huddle up and chat about that rollercoaster of a game between Ithaca College and SUNY Cortland. You know when a match gets settled with a walk-off walk, things have been wild.
Ithaca pulled out a 7-6 victory at Freeman Field. That win pushed them to a 20-11 record which is always a nice morale boost. You’ve got Andrew McDermott kicking things off with a single, and high-fives all around as Ethan Fantel brought McDermott home with an RBI single. Good old Ethan Murley did his thing on the mound with two scoreless innings before the baton got passed to Danny Drotos in the third.
Now, Drotos did let one in, tying the thing at 1-1, but baseball games are long, and drama is always lurking just around third base. Cortland woke up mid-game, tossing in two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings, pushing into a 5-1 lead. Just when Cortland players thought they’d take a stroll to victory lane, Ithaca decided to say, “Not so fast, fellas.”

In the bottom of the sixth, Ithaca decided to turn up the heat, showering them with a trio of runs. Fantel drew a walk, Feeney hit a single, and quick as you like, bases were loaded after Logan Scully got a free pass. A walk for Tyler Pugliese squeezed home Fantel for 5-2. Then came Laubscher, cracking a double to bring Feeney and Scully across the plate. And suddenly, it’s 5-4.
It’s the seventh inning, and Cortland claws back another run, 6-4. Picture it: ninth inning, it’s crunch time, and a ballpark full of tension. Ithaca needed three runs to catch up and…boom! Feeney’s up again, rips another double to right, McDonough and Dunn both score, 6-6 all. The bases wobble with anticipation—and then Ethan Daddabbo steps up for the walk-off walk so slow-mo dramatic you’d think it was a movie.
Sean Kelly? Yeah, he got the win, putting his record at a sweet 4-1. All that action just set the stage nicely for when they face Hobart College next. It’s a three-game series kicking off on Senior Day, so let’s make sure they feel the support.
