Okay, so here’s the scoop from Iowa: Drew Larson, a homegrown Hawkeye safety, is shaking things up—and it’s pretty exciting. Imagine playing safety for the Iowa Hawkeyes, then deciding you want to call the shots as a QB. That’s exactly where Larson’s head is at right now. He’s hopping into the transfer portal, hoping to nab that QB gig somewhere else, possibly in the FCS. Talk about a plot twist, right?

Larson’s coming out of Iowa City High School, and at 6-foot, 180 pounds, he’s got the frame and mindset to make some moves. He initially joined the Hawkeyes’ 2024 class as a walk-on, even though Iowa State was making eyes at him too. Now, Drew’s chasing that quarterback dream, going back to those high school roots where he was all over the field, playing both QB and receiver.

It’s kind of a bold move, especially considering the typical safety-to-QB transition isn’t exactly common. But hey, if anyone can make a splash and pivot like this, it’s someone who’s willing to take big gambles.

And if you want to keep tabs on this saga or more Hawkeyes news, you can follow along with the crew over at Hawkeyes Wire. They’re all over the latest updates. And keep an eye on Riley Donald, who’s got the inside track on all things Iowa. All eyes are definitely on Larson now, and I’m wicked curious to see which program snaps him up and lets him sling the ball.
