Alright, folks, let’s dive into the latest scoop from the college football cosmos—Texas Longhorns are letting go of another one. Yep, they’re getting real familiar with goodbyes as the transfer portal’s swinging wide open again.

This time, it’s running back Reid Watkins waving farewell. Now, Watkins came to Austin with dreams in his helmet and cleats. As a preferred walk-on, he was one of those high-potential guys Texas picked up last offseason, all thanks to then-coach Tashard Choice working his recruiting magic.

So, what’s Reid’s story? This dude put in some decent effort during his time with the Longhorns. He didn’t get much action, but in that fat win over Louisiana-Monroe, he managed four carries for 15 yards. And that’s not bad for the moments he got in the spotlight.

He originally had plans to rock it out at Tulsa, but switched lanes for Texas. He even tweeted, clearly over the moon, about this next chapter with UT, “super excited” and all.

But hey, things change, right? So, with his bags packed, he joins the ranks of others like wide receivers Freddie Dubose and Reece Beauchamp in entering the transfer portal this spring.

Watkins isn’t the first to take this route. The winter portal window was bustling with Longhorns seeking new grazing grounds. Players like wide receiver Johntay Cook II, linebackers Tausili Akana (now with BYU) and Derion Gullette (Mississippi State), and more made their exits. They had defensive linemen, CBs, you name it… hopping all over—from LSU to Arizona.

But now, Texas is resetting that starting lineup, prepping for their grand reentry against Ohio State on August 30. You know, nothing says “welcome back” like facing off with the Buckeyes.

Stay tuned—or better yet, stay in the portal loop. Because with college football, you never know who’s staying, who’s leaving, or who’s about to make waves. Keep your eyes peeled, folks.
