Alright, wrestling fans, gather ‘round because Iowa State just shook things up big time. Coach Kevin Dresser went shopping in the transfer portal and came back with two high-caliber studs for the upper weights in their lineup. Let’s talk about it.
First up, say hello to Rocky Elam. This guy’s no stranger to standing on podiums. He’s a four-time All-American and spent time as a Junior World Champion. Wrestling for Missouri, he snagged conference titles and racked up a 70-17 record with a bunch of bonus-point wins. Injuries didn’t stop him either; he placed sixth at NCAAs last year despite a bum shoulder. Oh, and he’s got the scholar-athlete thing on lock, being a two-time NWCA Scholar All-American. Now, he’s taking his talents to Ames, repping Cyclone red.
Not to be outdone, Isaac Dean is also hopping on the Cyclone train. Coming in from Rider, Dean made a name for himself by turning his NCAA Qualifier status into something special, taking down top wrestlers left and right. Not bad for a guy who didn’t start wrestling until eighth grade! Last season he nearly doubled his win tally, putting up a 25-9 record and snagging a MAC title. Dean finished ranked 14th nationally at 184 pounds. Talk about grit.
So what does this mean for Iowa State? Well, they just turbocharged their roster for the future. Coach Dresser’s gotta be stoked about the competition these guys will bring—on and off the mat. Cyclone fans, get ready for some exciting seasons ahead. These transfers are the real deal, ready to throw down.
Mark your calendars, folks—wrestling in Ames is about to get very interesting.
